The history of Rush’s orthopedics program, ranked 10th in the nation and higher than any other in Illinois by U.S.News & World Report, is marked by many pioneering moments. Rush was home to the world’s first minimally invasive hip surgery, advances in hip and knee implants and the implantation of a “growing prosthesis” for children with bone cancer.
In the future, we will continue to look for and develop new procedures that are safer, less expensive and that allow people to return to their routines faster — including treatments that use a patient’s own rejuvenated cells to replace diseased muscles and cartilage tissue. The campaign will support the Arthritis and Orthopedics Institute, which will lead the way toward more effective, less invasive care for musculoskeletal problems. Joint repair and replacement will remain a key focus, as will the spine partnership with neurosurgery.
